Welcome to the 2018 tax season

Posted on December 6, 2018 at 6:55 AM

Happy Holidays!

Welcome to the 2018 tax filing season!

Iubelt Consulting Services, Inc. is open for business and making preparations for the upcoming 2018 tax filing season.

I have included with this letter a few things that may be helpful while you gather your tax-related documents. Please take a few minutes to review the enclosed information, and contact me with any questions you may have. It is not necessary to schedule an appointment if you would prefer to send me your scanned documents electronically either through the secure portal at our website, vie e-mail or via US mail. You can also text me a picture of your documents. My office is 99% paperless so everything gets scanned to a secure server for safe-keeping. Original documents will be returned to you once your tax return is complete.

For those of you with businesses: 1099’s and W-2’s must be issued by January 31st to the recipients. Partnerships and S Corp returns are due March 15th. We must also track basis on these returns starting this year, so I may have additional questions as I work on them.

The Client Questionnaire asks about pertinent tax items necessary for preparing the most accurate personal tax return possible as well as review for tax planning opportunities. It is Not required to fill it out, but is a helpful reminder of what is needed.

I will also need the following information:

• Forms W-2 for your wages, salaries and tips.

• All Forms 1099 for interest, dividends, retirement, miscellaneous income, Social Security, state or local refunds, gambling winnings, etc.

• Brokerage statements showing investment transactions for stocks, bonds, etc.

• Schedule K-1 from partnerships, S corporations, estates and trusts.

• Statements supporting deductions for mortgage interest, taxes, and charitable contributions (including any Form 1098-C). Unless they total less than $12,000 for single payers and less than $24,000 for married couples. Additionally, all taxes for state and local income tax plus real estate are maxed out at $10,000 this year.

• Copies of closing statements regarding the sale or purchase of real property.

• Legal papers for adoption, divorce, or separation involving custody of your dependent children.

• Any tax notices sent to you by the IRS or other taxing authority.

• A copy of a voided check for direct deposit or electronic funds withdrawal (if applicable)

• A copy of your driver’s license number with issue date and expiration date. This is required for state filings.

I am pleased you have decided to allow me to serve your tax and accounting needs and as always, feel free to contact me anytime at the email address or phone number below. (Texts are OK, too!)

My business has grown through referrals from satisfied clients. If you know of someone who may benefit from my services, please feel free to give them my contact info or a business card.
